What data is being collected?

You need an account to access some of the features of this website. When you register, you must provide a username, password, forename, surname and email address.

What is the legal basis for processing the data?

The lawful basis for processing your personal data is article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR, which allows us to process personal data for "legitimate interests". The principal aim of goingbirding.co.uk is to provide bird news to local birders and to provide bird records to relevant bird recorders. Provenance of a bird record is of great importance in order to establish accuracy and to give historical legitimacy. Therefore, we need to associate records with a person.

How will the information be used?

Your username and password is used to provide you with a login.

We need your full name so we can associate bird records and photos with an observer.

We will only use your email address to contact you in relation to the records you provide or for administrative reasons relating to your account. We will not use your email address for marketing purposes.

Will the data be shared with any third parties?

We would like to forward your bird records to relevant bird recorders, such as the county bird club. You can opt-in or opt-out of this at any time by ticking the option on your account page.

How long will the data be stored for?

We will hold your data for as long as we are providing the service. Should goingbirding.co.uk cease to exist we will destroy your data within one month.

What rights do you have?

Right of access

You have the right to request access to your personal data. The only personal data we hold is the data that you provided when you created your account. You can access this data at any time from your account page.

Right to rectification

You have the right to request that your personal data is amended if it is inaccurate or incomplete. You can edit your data at any time from your account page.

Right to erasure

You have the right to request that your personal data is erased where there is no compelling reason for its continued processing. If you want your account to be deleted please email webmaster@goingbirding.co.uk. We will remove your account within one month of receiving your request.

Right to restrict processing

You have the right to request that the processing of your personal data is restricted. We would like to forward your bird records to relevant bird recorders, such as the county bird club. However, if you do not want us to do this you can opt-in or opt-out of this at any time by ticking the option on your account page.

Right to data portability

You have the right to get your personal data in a way that is accessible and machine-readable. You can download your bird records as a CSV file at any time from the export page. We can provide your account data in CSV format; Email webmaster@goingbirding.co.uk and we will email you a CSV file within one month of you request. There is no charge for this.

Right to object

You have the right to object to your personal data being processed. Email webmaster@goingbirding.co.uk, stating the reason for your objection.
