I went to have a look for the swan, and it was still there on the kitchen navigation, by itself. Great view. Also kingfisher and a firecrest by the handlebar cafe.

Previously reported as present all day. I checked it out and offer the following observations. Although very unseasonal it shows some characteristics worth considering as a possible wild bird rather than captive/escapee. a) it still has some brown feathers particularly on the head suggesting it is just turning adult. b) The mute swans took "duck food" readily but it stayed away at 4 metres distance and appeared wary at all times. c) There is no ring on either foot. d) The flight feathers appeared pristine and complete with no evidence of being tagged, clipped or rubbed against an barriers. I think the chances of a captive-bred bird not having a ring or clipped wings as a sub-adult must be low and I imagine such a bird would be used to grain feeding. I might add that birds in Iceland are very approachable so our view of "wild swans" is a little skewed as we rarely see them close up. . SU481280.
