Steve Groves, the Abbotsbury Swanherd, says: It was hatched here at the Swannery last spring and was ringed on 21st September 2023. Its metal ring is AS01733. It was sexed as a female and weighed 10.2 kg. It is very unusual for an Abbotsbury hatched swan to travel that far, especially a female. They usually stay on The Fleet Lagoon or just wander to the nearby wetland reserves in Weymouth . We ring incoming swans with yellow rings, and they are prone to wander, in fact there is one that is being regularly reported on the Isle of Wight currently. (This is likely to be FPU recorded at Ryde Canoe Lake.) .
