nests. 16 screaming birds flying around Avenue Road. Birds seen to enter roof via four different places on No. 1 Graham Cottages and one place on No. 2 Graham Cottages. SZ332873.

nests. Ten birds seen flying over Church Place. Three adults seen to go in and out of three different nest holes on three different houses. Two were in holes in the brick walls and the third was a circular air vent above an upstairs window. SZ344873.

nests. One bird went into traditional site at Bon Accord (in peak of gable at front of building between soffit and brick wall). Another seen to go into the left-hand side of the gable of Wintonia (left-hand half of building/side adjoining Bon Accord). SZ324869.

ad. Six screaming Swifts in a group flying around Elliston House, Elliston Road. One adult flew out of a Swift nestbox at 21.35 and it or another flew into the same nestbox at 21.40. The nestbox being used has an access ramp and the entrance is on the underside of the box. House Sparrows nest in the two other Swift nestboxes, which have an entrance on the front and no access ramp. A youngster was seen looking out of the nestbox by the owner (Mrs McAndrew) in July. I watched the property for 20 minutes between 16.40 and 17.00 hrs and, after a couple of minutes, a Swift flew in under the soffit just beyond the far nestbox. It first flew up to the hole and back down before making a second attempt and going in. Five minutes later, a second Swift flew up to the hole of the furthest nestbox and back down again before making a second attempt and then going straight in. Five minutes after that, another bird flew up to the nearest nestbox and went straight in. Audible screams were heard. All three birds stayed in their respective nesting places and were still there when I left. The lady who lives in the property moved there in 2003 and has had Swifts nesting there all that time. About four years ago, she had the bargeboards repaired and redecorated and put up the two nestboxes then. I have added the info to the RSPB's Swift Mapper. SZ342860.

Possible		Photographed from Bexley Point amongst about 40 Common Swift, c6 Swallows and 2 House Martins. Looking at the photo I thought of Red-rumped Swallow but others have suggested White-rumped Swift. See Galley for a distant picture. Latest opinion is for a Hybid House Martin.
